Brecon Film SocietyVenue: Brecon Coliseum Cinema, Wheat Street, LD3 7DG Time: Evenings
Brecon Film Society, which is affiliated to the British Federation of Film Societies, has been running for approximately eleven years - no-one is
quite certain when it actually did begin, but it started life in the back room of a pub in Brecon as a result of an advertisment in the local paper
for people with an interest in film to get together.
We now have just under a hundred members and are fortunate to be one of the few film societies which are able to see our films as they were meant to
be seen - in the comfort and unique atmosphere of a real cinema. In our case the Coliseum Cinema in Brecon.
We show non-mainstream films which are by and large not on general release, such as foreign and low budget films, and each season we devote one night
to a celebration of the Silent Film in all its glory, complete with special piano accompaniment played and composed by our Treasurer, Paul Shallcross
who is well known to cognoscenti of that genre! He is a mine of information too and always happy to pass on his love and knowledge of silent films to
other film societies.
Brecon Film Society shows its films on the first Monday of the month at 7.30 prompt, we do not show advertisements first - at the Coliseum Cinema in
Brecon. Shows are open to all, not just members, though membership does mean a large saving on the ticket price - £3 as opposed to £5 - and the
opportunity to borrow from our extensive collection of videos of classic films.
There is a rolling membership of one year which entitles the member to admission for one year from the date of joining. You can join at any time in
the season (September to June inclusive) and membership enquiries can be made to either Judith Fitton on 01874 632166 or Charlotte Davies on 01874
610587.
