Green Dragon

Green Dragon is the environmental standard used in Wales, which is awarded to businesses that are minimising their environmental impact. 800 businesses in Wales have achieved the Green Dragon certificate and just under a 100 of those are tourism businesses in the Brecon Beacons area.

Green Dragon is a tool for you to use, it provides an Environmental Management System which looks at your whole business and provides a set of processes and practices that enable you to reduce your environmental impacts and increase operating efficiency. The process develops over time as an evolving process giving continuous improvement.

You maybe be interested in Green Dragon as an individual because of your belief system.

As a business person it makes good business sense.

As tourism businesses it will be to meet the growing expectation of your customers, who want to recycle, want to support a green business.

For Brecon Beacons tourism businesses in the long term this has to be about maintaining one of your main asserts.

Green Dragon essentially does three things:
1. Basically it is a snapshot of what you are doing now. A benchmark.
2. You then decide where you want to go, what your aims are.
3. Then plan how you are going to get there.

Within the Brecon Beacons, the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority arrange a series of workshops and site visits looking at supporting you through the Green Dragon assessment. The BBNPA also provide a free marketing leaflet 'Stay Somewhere Green' promoting all the Green Dragon tourism businesses, a website listing and regular e-mail updates. Each year we also organise and run a series of environmental workshops on a range of topics to bring together the information you want.
