Directory - Caving
For those interested in the underground....there are fantastic opportunities for the experienced caver to be challenged whilst those who want to try a
one off caving experience can book one of the many accredited guides in the area (see the directory listings).
The Brecon Beacons boasts one of Britain's third longest caves, Ogof Ffynnon Ddu. OFD (as it is commonly known) is also Britain's deepest at 308m
deep. The area also has Porth yr ogof - the largest cave entrance in Wales and one of the largest anywhere in the United Kingdom. This spectacular
entrance can be admired by anyone but the general public should not be tempted in without an experienced guide.
On the Llangattock Escarpment, in the east of the Park, over 12 miles of passages can be accessed and The Clydach Gorge also has numerous cave
passages.
Information on access to these caves can be found on the South Wales Caving Club's website (see our links page)
The National Show Caves at Dan yr Ogof are an opportunity for the whole family to experience some of the most dramatic caving systems in the Park (See
the directory). | |
