Directory - Fishing

Flowing across the northern edge of the Beacons National Park is the river Usk, currently Wales’s premier salmon river and one of the UK’s most famous wild brown trout fishing destinations. The translation of River Usk, or Afon Wysg as it is in Welsh, is appropriately ‘river abounding in fish.’

Permits for the Breconshire Fishery can be obtained from The Guildhall (01874 622148) or at The Post Office Westend Service Station (01874 623225). Alternatively, the Wye & Usk Foundation (01982 551 520) provide day tickets for several main river beats, as well as some wonderful wild brown trout fishing on remote tributary streams. You can also contact them to request a free brochure.

The Park is also host to a number of reservoirs, lakes and canals. Permits are available for many of these by the water’s edge. For more information on fishing the Rivers Usk & Wye see our links page.
