Brecon Beacons Tourism – the tourism association that is ‘Actively working for Tourism in the Brecon Beacons’

In 2012 Punch Maughan of Brecon Beacons Tourism was awarded the second Professional Development Award from the Tourism Society Wales to develop a case study to oversee and facilitate investigative research to look at BBT's role representing the tourism business sector in the area in an effective 'Destination Partnership' as well as to consider the development needs of the Director. Beacons Beacons Tourism (BBT) evolved from a group of tourism operators who came together to actively promote the Brecon Beacons across the UK and internationally as a destination. Having achieved destination status we are now a company limited by guarantee and work to market and support all tourism businesses across the Brecon Beacons National Park.

We believe we need a strong tourism voice for the Brecon Beacons National Park and the surrounding area in order to let our views be known to The National Park Authority, the 9 local authorities who have a foot in our area and Welsh Government.

The businesses and public organisations involved with BBT reflect the diverse range of the tourism offer available in and around the Brecon Beacons National Park. All however have the same desires to see the Brecon Beacons marketed as an iconic destination in Wales. We try to work with all private and public sectors to make the tourism product as accessible as possible to potential visitors.

BBT sits on the Wales Tourism Alliance and the Wales Activity Tourism Organisation and engages in all aspects of tourism and associated policy matters.

BBT was instrumental in gaining destination status for the Brecon Beacons & achieving funding support from the Regional Tourism Partners to strengthen the marketing of the Brecon Beacons. BBT sits on the Brecon Beacons Marketing Coordination Group with the BBNPA, Powys, Monmouthshire and Carmarthenshire.

As a member of Brecon Beacons Tourism you will:

• Receive a discount on advertising on the new destination website www.breconbeacons.org
• Have a business page on the BBT member site - www.getactive-beacons.co.uk and in the short term on www.breconbeaconstourism.co.uk until this URL is moved to point at the new website
• Receive a discount on advertising in the BBNP visitor guide and the Powys area marketing guide
• Receive regular e-communications about tourism, training and other opportunities that are available
• The opportunity to buy into the leaflet distribution service
• Access discounted insurance for your business & cheaper credit card processing deals
• The opportunity to be part of the voice lobbying for & safeguarding the interests of all sectors of the tourism industry in the Brecon Beacons area
• BBT executive members sit on the Brecon Beacons Sustainable Destination Partnership, Brecon Beacons Marketing Coordination Group, Wales Tourism Alliance and the Wales Activity Tourism Organisation and engage in all aspects of tourism and associated policy matters. BBT is thus able to keep you better informed of emerging opportunities and impacts
• BBT works closely with the local tourism groups in the area and has members from these groups sitting on their Board. When you join BBT we will send you the contact details for your local area group and how you can get involved in your local initiatives (see list on page 3)
• It is not a requirement of BBT membership that a business is graded or licensed although BBT is committed to quality and safety at all times. However please note grading is required for accommodation businesses advertising on the new destination website.
